Indoor Cats

Indoor Cats at Clarence Brown Lab Theatre

Filmmaker Jules escapes to her parents' cabin in Central Pennsylvania just as the world seems to be shutting down around her. Recently dumped and creatively stuck, she meets a flirtatious neighbor who pulls her into the bizarre task of making movies for cats. Playwright Mora V. Harris turns isolation, desire and artistic crisis into a fresh new comedy at Clarence Brown Lab Theatre in Knoxville on Sunday, February 28, 2027, at 2:00 PM. If you're drawn to stories that laugh at how strange life gets when nothing makes sense, Indoor Cats gives you a reason to spend a Sunday afternoon at the theater.

Director Daniel Bird Tobin brings Harris's wry script to the stage with a production team including scenic designer Ellie Cornett, lighting designer Brek Dodson and projection designer Miguel Santiago. Their collaboration shapes the cabin world Jules retreats to and the odd filmmaking project she can't resist. For theatergoers curious about new voices in American comedy, this production introduces a playwright willing to follow creativity into unexpected territory.

Invite someone who appreciates theater that surprises them. A friend who'd enjoy a comedy about art, uncertainty and human connection. A partner who laughs at how absurd creative work can feel. A Sunday matinee gives you time to talk about what you saw afterward, and choosing a new play together puts discovery at the center of your plans.
