A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol at Clarence Brown Theatre - Mainstage

Ebenezer Scrooge stands alone in his counting house, convinced generosity is foolishness and Christmas a fraud. Then three spirits arrive to show him what his hardened heart has cost him and what might still be saved if he chooses differently. The Clarence Brown Theatre Company stages Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol at Clarence Brown Theatre - Mainstage in Knoxville on Sunday, December 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Watch a miser face his past, his present and his future before the night runs out.

Director Patrick Lanczki brings the Edward Morgan and Joseph Hanreddy adaptation to the stage, with music by John Tanner woven through the production. The spirits guide Scrooge through moments he'd rather forget and truths he's refused to see. Music, humor and theatrical spectacle support the central question: can a man who has closed himself off from joy find his way back? That tension keeps the story worth returning to, even when you already know the ending.

A Sunday matinee gives you time to gather people you'd like to sit beside this season. The production is recommended for ages 4 and older, and children under 4 are not permitted. Plan the outing with your own family's readiness in mind. Theater creates space for conversations that don't always happen at home, and this story invites them.
