A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol at Clarence Brown Theatre - Mainstage

Ebenezer Scrooge keeps his distance from joy, generosity and other people. Then three spirits arrive to show him the life he's lived, the present he's missing and the future he's headed toward unless he changes. The Clarence Brown Theatre Company stages Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol at Clarence Brown Theatre - Mainstage in Knoxville on Friday, November 20, 2026, at 7:30 PM. Watch a lonely miser discover that hearts can change and kindness can take root, even in the coldest soul.

Director Patrick Lanczki leads the Edward Morgan and Joseph Hanreddy adaptation, with music by John Tanner adding another layer to the familiar tale. Dickens gave us the plot, but this production adds theatrical spectacle, humor and warmth that make the evening more than a moral lesson. The ghosts set Scrooge's journey in motion. His choice to embrace compassion gives you a reason to care.

Bring someone you'd enjoy sitting beside as the holiday season gathers momentum. A theater date offers a reason to gather before schedules fill with obligations.
