About Clarence Brown Theatre
Clarence Brown Theatre is the University of Tennessee’s mainstage performance venue on the Knoxville campus. Professional theatre and university training meet here through productions involving visiting artists, faculty and students. The mainstage is a distinct auditorium within the Clarence Brown theatre operation: a ticket for the Lab Theatre or Jenny Boyd Theatre directs you to a different performance space. Campus parking and nearby athletic events are worth considering as part of an evening at the theatre.

Plan Your Visit to Clarence Brown Theatre
Which theatre is on my ticket?
The mainstage is a purpose-built theatre with its own seating plan. The smaller Lab and the flexible Jenny Boyd Theatre have separate layouts and event schedules. Check the hall name before choosing an entrance or meeting friends, even when the same company produces all three programs.
Where should I park on campus?
Clarence Brown Theatre directs patrons to McClung Tower Garage at 1115 Volunteer Boulevard. Patron parking is free, subject to availability. From the garage, the route through the Humanities Building toward the theatre plaza includes stairs; guests who need a different approach should arrange accessible arrival instead of assuming this is a step-free path.
Staff Lot 23 is restricted. A limited number of accessible spaces are available to visitors with the required government placard, and this lot is the recommended mobility drop-off point. The theatre advises approaching campus from Cumberland Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard to reduce conflicts with arena and baseball traffic.
How can I arrange accessible seating?
Contact the house manager at 865-974-8287 at least 24 hours ahead for accessible seating or assistance. The theatre explains that routes between parking, lobbies, restrooms and performance spaces can involve ramps. Discuss your particular route and mobility needs before arrival.
Complimentary assistive listening devices include headset and induction-loop options. Sensory boxes contain items such as noise-reducing headphones and fidgets. Selected performances provide captioning or interpretation; confirm that the service applies to the production and performance space you are attending.
What should I know before the performance?
Late seating is not guaranteed, so the theatre recommends arriving early enough to park and reach the lobby before the production begins. Collect will-call tickets at least five minutes before the performance. A delay at campus parking can therefore affect both ticket collection and seating.
Accessibility services may be tied to particular performances rather than every date in a run. The published FAQ identifies open-caption and ASL programming, but the production’s current schedule is the right place to select a supported date.
What address should I use?
The physical theatre address is 1714 Andy Holt Avenue. McClung Tower is also used in university mailing addresses, but its 1115 Volunteer Boulevard address is most useful to a visitor as the parking-garage destination. Keep the theatre address and the parking destination separate when setting up navigation.
