Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Masterworks

Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Masterworks at Tennessee Theatre

Beethoven's influence didn't end with his lifetime. Knoxville Symphony Orchestra brings that legacy into focus when Masterworks takes the stage at Tennessee Theatre on Thursday, January 14, 2027, at 7:30 PM. Music Director Aram Demirjian pairs two of Beethoven's celebrated overtures with his Piano Concerto No. 3, performed by pianist Jonathan Biss. If you've wondered how one composer shaped centuries of music, this program offers a chance to hear the conversation unfold.

South Korean composer Unsuk Chin opens the evening with subito con forza, written to commemorate Beethoven's 250th birthday. The title borrows one of his most familiar performance markings, and the work reflects on his musical legacy from a contemporary perspective. Caroline Shaw's watermark continues that dialogue between past and present. Together, they demonstrate how today's composers engage with the traditions Beethoven helped establish.

Choose someone who appreciates live music and give yourself a reason to spend a Thursday evening at the theater. A friend who shares your curiosity. A partner who enjoys orchestral performances. The occasion doesn't require expertise, just the willingness to listen.
