Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Masterworks at Tennessee Theatre

Berlioz gave the symphony a story. He filled Symphonie fantastique with obsession, dreams, and a march to the scaffold. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra performs that work alongside two other pieces built around narrative and drama at Tennessee Theatre on Thursday, March 18, 2027, at 7:30 PM. Guest conductor Noam Aviel returns to lead a program for listeners who want music that tells you something.

The evening opens with Puccini's La Tregenda, an orchestral scene from his first opera depicting spirits seeking vengeance on unfaithful lovers. Between that and the Berlioz, Concertmaster William Shaub performs Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3, one of the composer's most enduring concertos. Each work on this program was written to convey something beyond notes: legend, emotion, narrative.

Symphonie fantastique helped redefine what an orchestra could express. Berlioz wrote it as a vehicle for Romantic storytelling, and it remains one of the defining achievements of that repertoire. This concert gives you a reason to hear it performed live, not filtered through a recording. Bring someone who appreciates music with weight and intention.
