Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Masterworks

Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Masterworks at Tennessee Theatre

Ravel's Boléro builds slowly, persistently, as the orchestral sound grows. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra performs Masterworks at Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 7:30 PM. If that patient, hypnotic crescendo draws you to Ravel's most famous work, come hear the KSO give it the live orchestral treatment it was written for.

Music Director Aram Demirjian conducts a program that connects four composers active during a period of significant change in European music. The evening opens with Debussy's Clair de lune in André Caplet's orchestration, continues with Olivier Messiaen's four symphonic meditations L'Ascension, and places pianist Jeremy Denk at the center of Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 2. Demirjian describes the Second Concerto as one of the most technically demanding works in the piano repertoire, making Denk's appearance a central reason to attend.

Bring someone who shares your appreciation for live orchestral music. A partner who remembers hearing Boléro for the first time. A friend who values the chance to watch an artist navigate formidable writing for the soloist. Friday at Tennessee Theatre gives you both a reason to dress up, leave the house, and spend an evening following the orchestra and soloist in person.
