Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Masterworks

Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Masterworks at Tennessee Theatre

Johannes Brahms wrote A German Requiem for the living. He chose passages from the German Bible that speak to comfort, hope, and the shared experience of grief, shaping a work unlike the traditional Latin requiem mass. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra performs Brahms' masterpiece at Tennessee Theatre on Friday, April 16, 2027, at 7:30 PM. Music Director Aram Demirjian leads soprano Ashley Fabian, baritone Ethan Vincent, and the Knoxville Choral Society in one of the choral repertoire's most deeply human achievements.

Hearing this work live places you inside voices and instruments that recordings cannot fully capture. The choir, soloists, and orchestra create layers of sound that fill the theater and pull you into Brahms' vision of remembrance and renewal. Michael Schachter's Four for Gideon and selections from Randall Thompson's Frostiana, inspired by Robert Frost's poetry, open the evening and offer a thoughtful introduction to the themes Brahms explores.

Invite someone who appreciates music with depth and emotion. A friend drawn to choral repertoire. A partner who values an evening built around reflection rather than spectacle. The occasion gives you something specific to look forward to and a reason to experience Brahms together.
