The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music at Tennessee Theatre

Maria leaves the abbey, steps into the von Trapp household, and reminds seven children what music can do. The Sound of Music arrives at Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville on Sunday, March 28, 2027, at 1:30 PM. Rodgers & Hammerstein built a musical around resilience, warmth, and songs you already know. Follow a spirited nun who refuses to live behind closed doors and finds her place in a story audiences have loved for decades.

Director Jack O'Brien, a three-time Tony Award winner, leads this production. Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and Edelweiss form the score that keeps the musical in rotation. Those songs give you a reason to bring someone who grew up singing them, and someone young enough to discover them for the first time. Theater makes that kind of sharing possible in a way a screen cannot.

A matinee gives you the afternoon, leaving evening plans open or putting the show at the center of a Sunday outing. Invite someone whose love of musicals matches yours, or a family member who would enjoy an afternoon at the theater. The Sound of Music rewards the decision to gather and gives you something to talk about on the way home.
