Clyde's

Clyde's at The Jenny Boyd Theatre

A sandwich shop kitchen becomes the unlikely setting for redemption. Clyde's plays at The Jenny Boyd Theatre in Knoxville on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 7:30 PM. Lynn Nottage's Tony-nominated play follows a group of formerly incarcerated cooks working under a hard-edged boss, finding something unexpected as they toast bread and swirl sauces: pride, possibility, and the fragile hope of starting over. If you're drawn to stories about people fighting their way back, this is the play to see.

Nottage has won two Pulitzer Prizes for drama, and Clyde's became one of the most-produced plays in America. Her appeal rests on her ability to balance humor with honest human struggle. Director Katie Lupica leads a production designed to bring that balance to life in 100 minutes with no intermission. You'll follow characters whose second chances are rare and whose dreams begin one sandwich at a time.

Bring someone who appreciates theater that doesn't look away from hard truths but still finds room for laughter and hope. A friend who shares your taste for contemporary American drama. A partner ready for a night that gives you something worth talking about afterward. The play contains strong language, mature themes including discussions of incarceration and past trauma, sexual references, and depictions of workplace conflict. Choose the evening with those elements in mind.
