Clyde's

Clyde's at The Jenny Boyd Theatre

A sandwich shop becomes the stage for second chances. Lynn Nottage's Clyde's comes to The Jenny Boyd Theatre in Knoxville on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 7:30 PM. Watch a group of formerly incarcerated cooks try to rebuild their lives under a boss who makes every shift a test. The play asks whether redemption can be found in the rhythm of toasting bread and layering ingredients, and whether hope can survive a hard hand and low expectations.

Nottage is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, and Clyde's earned a Tony nomination before becoming one of the most-produced plays in America. Director Katie Lupica leads the production with a creative team that includes scenic designer Kristen Martino, costume designer Tori Niemiec, and lighting designer Miguel J. Santiago. The play runs 100 minutes without intermission, keeping the focus on the kitchen and its changing relationships.

Invite someone who appreciates a story that respects the difficulty of starting over, or a friend who values theater that finds humor and soul in ordinary work. The play contains strong language, mature themes including discussions of incarceration and past trauma, sexual references, and depictions of workplace conflict. Choose the outing with those elements in mind.
