Masterworks puts the full orchestra at the Tennessee Theatre, Chamber programs bring a different scale to the Bijou, and Concertmaster recitals take you to the Knoxville Museum of Art. The Pops calendar also includes programs built around familiar songs or films.

Masterworks concerts take place at Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville. The venue is at 604 South Gay Street and provides seating in orchestra and balcony sections for full orchestral performances.

Knoxville Symphony Orchestra divides its season into distinct series that use different venues and performance formats. Masterworks concerts take place at Tennessee Theatre and focus on traditional orchestral repertoire with the full ensemble. Chamber programs move to the smaller Bijou Theatre for intimate performances with reduced instrumentation. Concertmaster recitals are held at Knoxville Museum of Art and feature solo and small-ensemble works. Pops and film concerts represent separate formats with their own scheduling.
The venue choice affects your experience significantly. Tennessee Theatre holds a large audience and provides the acoustic space for full orchestral sound. Bijou Theatre seats just over 700 and creates a closer connection between musicians and listeners. Knoxville Museum of Art performances happen in gallery spaces and typically draw smaller crowds for specialized programming. Knowing which series interests you helps narrow your search and ensures the setting matches your expectations.
Upcoming Performances
The concert calendar lists Bartók & Boléro on November 12–13, 2026, Handel's Messiah on November 22, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas on November 29. Immortal Beethoven is scheduled for January 14–15, 2027, and Mostly Mozart for January 24. Confirm locations and times through the individual series and event pages, since the calendar provides performance dates but venue details can vary by program type.

Tennessee Theatre Masterworks Venue
Tennessee Theatre is the home for Masterworks concerts and sits at 604 South Gay Street in downtown Knoxville. The venue hosts Broadway productions, orchestral performances, touring concerts, comedy and film programs throughout the year. Its calendar serves many audiences, so check that you are selecting a Knoxville Symphony Orchestra date rather than a different performance.
Reserved seating uses orchestra and balcony sections. Side-section numbering places even-numbered seats together on the right and odd-numbered seats together on the left, while orchestra-center numbering begins at 101. A pair numbered 1 and 3 can therefore sit adjacent rather than separated by a missing seat. Review the actual performance map when choosing tickets to avoid confusion about seat locations.
The theatre does not own a parking garage. Visitor information identifies Locust Street, Market Square, Langley and Dwight Kessel garages, plus paid options at First Tennessee Plaza and Riverview Tower. Some downtown facilities advertise free evenings and weekends, but you should confirm the posted terms at the garage you actually use. Plan to arrive at least half an hour before the performance to handle parking and seating.
Bijou Theatre Chamber Concerts
Bijou Theatre presents Knoxville Symphony Orchestra chamber programs in a historic 1909 building at 803 South Gay Street. The room seats just over 700 and offers a more intimate alternative to the larger Tennessee Theatre. Its smaller scale suits chamber repertoire and creates a direct connection with the musicians.
The venue has orchestra and upper-level seating but no elevator to the upper levels. Wheelchair locations and other accessible seats must be requested when ordering. An available upper-level ticket is not a substitute for a step-free seat, so consult the performance's seating plan before selecting a level. Arrange accessible seating when you buy tickets rather than relying on a change at the door.
Public garages, privately operated lots and metered street spaces serve this part of downtown. The venue names State Street, Market Square and Locust Street garages among the options. Their published evening and weekend free periods do not apply to every downtown lot, so read the entrance signs before parking. The neighboring Conley Square Lot at 310 West Church Avenue provides another choice; compare the parking operator's current terms with the time you expect to leave.
Concertmaster Recitals at Knoxville Museum of Art
Concertmaster recitals take place at Knoxville Museum of Art on World's Fair Park Drive. The museum focuses on East Tennessee's visual culture, and its building includes exhibition galleries, public programs and occasional performances. Ordinary gallery admission is free, but a concert or special event has separate arrangements. Confirm the event's room and admission details instead of assuming regular gallery hours apply.
Free visitor parking is identified in the lot north of the staff lot and in the lot across the street from the museum. Metered street spaces provide another option. Keep staff and visitor parking distinctions in mind and follow posted directions on arrival. The museum is wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs can be borrowed at the information desk. Contact the museum at 865-525-6101 to request other accommodations; event-rental guidance asks for at least 48 hours' notice.
The museum's event spaces include Ann and Steve Bailey Hall, Regal Commons and a boardroom. Bailey Hall can be arranged for receptions or seated functions, and seated capacity depends on setup. A published rental capacity is not a guarantee of a particular concert's seat count or layout, so read the performance details for the room and seating arrangement. The usual gallery schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1–5 p.m., with Mondays closed. A scheduled evening performance has its own arrival arrangements separate from regular gallery hours.
Pops Concerts at Knoxville Civic Auditorium
Knoxville Civic Auditorium hosts orchestral pops programs along with touring stage productions, concerts and comedy. The auditorium is the theatre-style performance hall within the Civic Auditorium and Coliseum complex, separate from the neighboring hockey arena despite sharing the Howard Baker Jr. Avenue address and campus parking. That distinction matters when choosing seats and finding the correct event on arrival.
The auditorium holds approximately 2,500 people in a theatre layout that should not be confused with the Coliseum's arena seating. Check the auditorium map for the performance you are attending, particularly when selecting between main-floor and balcony locations. There is no elevator to the auditorium balcony, so accessible locations are provided on the main floor. Arrange the appropriate seat when ordering instead of relying on a relocation after arrival.
KCAC has three dedicated parking garages with approximately 2,500 spaces. The current parking page lists standard event parking at $20 and Ice Bears or Knoxville Symphony Orchestra parking at $15, with rates subject to change. Parking is cashless and accepts major credit cards. UT football park-and-ride uses a separate rate and operating arrangement, so check the intended event before purchasing a pass.
Accessibility Across KSO Venues
Each Knoxville Symphony Orchestra venue provides accessibility accommodations, but the specific arrangements differ by building. Tennessee Theatre directs guests with mobility needs using State Street Garage to Level 3 or above and the pedestrian bridge to avoid the steeper street route. A northbound Gay Street drop-off area sits in front of the theatre. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms include a family-style restroom on the orchestra level at Aisle 1. Complimentary assistive listening devices are offered for most performances on a first-come basis with identification held during use. Sensory bags are available at the box office, with a quiet area in the lower lobby. Sign-language interpretation should be arranged at least two weeks ahead.
Bijou Theatre offers wheelchair seating, accommodations for low vision or hearing loss, and advance requests for sign-language interpretation. Interpreter requests should reach the theatre at least ten business days before the performance and remain subject to availability. KultureCity sensory bags can be borrowed at the box office with identification, and a designated quiet space is available for breaks.
Knoxville Civic Auditorium provides assisted listening devices from the box office or guest-services staff. Interpretation requires advance coordination, and the detailed policy asks for at least 14 business days. First-aid offices are located in the auditorium and Coliseum lobbies.
