Hadestown

Hadestown at Tennessee Theatre

Orpheus searches for Eurydice in the underworld. Hades and Persephone hold the seasons in their quarrel. Hadestown brings two Greek myths to Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville on Sunday, April 25, 2027, at 7:00 PM. Anaïs Mitchell's songs turn ancient fate into a reason to care about choices made today. If you've ever wanted myth to feel immediate rather than distant, this Tony-winning musical makes the case live.

Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Hadestown weaves Orpheus and Eurydice's doomed love with Hades and Persephone's broken marriage. Director Rachel Chavkin shapes the production into a theatrical experience that earned its acclaim by making old stories feel urgent. The music carries the weight; the staging puts you inside the myth.

Choose this show for someone who loves myth retold, theater that refuses to coast on familiarity, or a night out that asks questions about love and power. A Sunday evening at Tennessee Theatre gives you time to make the occasion deliberate. Invite the friend who introduced you to folk traditions or the partner who shares your taste in thoughtful musicals. The show gives you something to discuss afterward.
