What the Constitution Means to Me

What the Constitution Means to Me at The Jenny Boyd Theatre

The Constitution is a document. It's also a debate. Playwright Heidi Schreck brings both to the stage in What the Constitution Means to Me, playing at The Jenny Boyd Theatre in Knoxville on Tuesday, April 6, 2027, at 6:30 PM. Schreck revisits the teenage speech competitions where she once debated constitutional rights to earn college tuition. Now the stage becomes a civic arena where ideas clash and the audience is invited into the conversation.

This Tony-nominated Broadway hit blends storytelling, history, humor and live debate. Schreck examines what the Constitution means to her, and the production gives you space to consider what it means to you. Director Tarah Flanaghan leads a creative team including scenic designer Melena Scott and lighting designer Dylan Tillery. The appeal here is a theatrical event that feels both personal and thrillingly alive.

Bring someone whose political voice you respect, even if you don't always agree. A friend who cares about citizenship. A partner who values debate. The show offers a reason to talk afterward about the ideas you've just heard. You don't need a special occasion; you need a conversation worth having together.

Think of the person whose opinion sharpens your own thinking and make the invitation. Explore ticket options for What the Constitution Means to Me in Knoxville and plan an evening at the theater.
